A woman was shot in Broward neighborhood — and a man has been arrested, cops say

Miami Herald File

A man was arrested Sunday after, deputies say, he shot a woman in North Broward.

Edward Wiggins, 50, is behind bars on charges of attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and shooting into an occupied dwelling. Wiggins was being held at the Broward Main Jail as of Monday morning.

On Sunday, shortly before 8:15 a.m., Broward sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a shooting in the 200 block of Northwest 14th Street, a residential neighborhood in Pompano Beach. A woman was found there with a gunshot wound.

Pompano Beach paramedics took the woman, whose identity has not been released, to the hospital, according to deputies. Her injuries were not life-threatening.

In 2017, Wiggins was sentenced in Broward for a slew of gun and drug possession charges. Florida prison records show he was released from custody in 2018. From 2008 to 2011, Wiggins was in prison for aggravated assault with a weapon.
