Man with a long criminal history facing murder charge in Hialeah: cops
A 47-year-old “career criminal” turned himself in to Hialeah Police on Monday on charges of shooting a man in the head in a parking lot earlier this month, authorities say.
On Sept. 10, Hialeah police officers arrived at 2265 W. Fourth Court after a call asking for a welfare check to be done on a man lying on the ground. Officers found the man with a gunshot wound to his forehead, according to the arrest affidavit of the alleged shooter, Fletcher Deno Jimeson of Opa-locka.
The victim was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he died four days later. The medical examiner’s office ruled his death a homicide. Authorities did not identify the victim.
Hialeah homicide detectives did a walkthrough of the shooting scene and found a .45 caliber casing around 30 feet from where the man was found.
Police say surveillance video shows the victim speaking with three men, including Jimeson, before walking away. Moments later, Jimesonallegedly fired at him from a distance. All three men then fled. .
Jimeson is no stranger to the Hialeah Police Department—with three officers identifying him as the shooter.
“One officer has personally known the defendant for over a decade,” his arrest paperwork read.
Court records show Jimeson has an extensive criminal history, including a case dating back to 1998, when he was convicted of manslaughter with a deadly weapon and sentenced to 15 years in prison, police say. As a convicted felon, he is barred from possessing guns or ammunition.
On Monday, Jimeson arrived at the police station with his attorney, Hugo Apellaniz, and surrendered. He invoked his right to remain silent.
Jimeson remained jailed at Turner Guilford Knight Correction Center as of Tuesday afternoon on “no bond,” jail records show.
