U.S. Border Patrol divers found 8 pounds of cocaine attached to the bottom of the hull of a cargo ship docked at PortMiami on Tuesday, the agency announced.

The ship had just come into port when the divers dove down to remove the contraband, the Border Patrol said in a statement on X.

They used “specialized underwater cutting tools” to detach the package, Border Patrol Chief Michael W. Banks said.

“Our specialized team made history with their first ever parasitic drug seizure,” Banks wrote on the social media platform. “This marks an innovative advancement to continuing narcotics interdiction efforts.”
