An argument over child custody led to a woman being shot in Pembroke Pines Tuesday morning, police say.

The shooting happened around 11 a.m. in a parking lot near Northwest 78th Terrace and Third Street, according to police.

Pembroke Pines Police said Otis Leevel Johnson, 24, of Davie, went to the Advenir at San Tropez neighborhood to speak with his ex-partner about the child they share. They got into an argument that also included another man and woman, police said.

Johnson pulled out a gun and began firing at the three other people, hitting his estranged partner, according to police. The other man drew his gun and returned fire, but did not hit Johnson, police said.

Johnson drove off and was caught by Hollywood and Pembroke Pines police officers at the 6200 block of Hollywood Boulevard, according to police.

He is being held in Broward County jail without bond on charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to detention records.

Paramedics took the woman, whom police did not identify citing victim’s rights laws, to a hospital to be treated for gunshot wounds. Her condition as of Wednesday was not available.
