Officer shot armed man in Miami, police say. He’s in critical condition

A police officer shot a man in Liberty City on Monday morning, according to law enforcement.

First responders found the man at Northwest 15th Avenue and 65th Street, according to Miami Fire Rescue. The man, whose identity has not been released, is in his early 30s. He had multiple gunshot wounds.

At around 6:45 a.m., officers received a ShotSpotter alert a block away at Northwest 64th Street. A 911 caller also reported seeing a man firing a gun in the area.

When officers spotted the man, he was “armed with a handgun,” leading an officer to shoot him, according to Miami police. He was hit by the gunfire.

It’s unclear how many times the officer shot the man.

The man was taken to Ryder Trauma Center, according to fire rescue. Officials described his condition as “extremely critical.”

The intersection where the injured man was found is near Liberty Square Apartments and just under a mile from Miami Northwestern Senior High School.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is leading the investigation, as usual in police shootings. Witnesses and those with information should contact Crime Stoppers Miami at 305-471-8477.
