Man arrested after woman killed in Brownsville hit-and-run, deputies say
A man who ran over a woman in Northwest Miami-Dade on Sunday morning was arrested after he turned himself in, deputies say.
Edwin Serrano, 46, is facing a charge of leaving the scene of a crash after his Monday arrest. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office says Serrano was driving the white 2017 Cadillac Escalade that struck Stefhany Michelle Reconco Rosales, 26, on Northwest 32nd Avenue.
Reconco Rosales was taken to Ryder Trauma Center, where she died at 6:07 a.m.
Surveillance footage captured the Escalade slowing down with its brake lights on before it sped off toward Northwest 36th Street, according to an arrest report.
Shortly after 2:30 p.m., detectives found the SUV parked in the yard of a home at 1460 NW 58th St., the report said. The front of the Escalade had damage consistent with striking the woman.
Two hours later, Serrano turned himself in at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. He declined to provide a statement upon his arrest, according to the report.
The hit-and-run unfolded right outside 809 Miami Lounge in Miami’s Brownsville neighborhood, according to Local 10 News.
