Miami man faces charge for fatal hit-and-run involving pedestrian, police say
A Miami man sped away after hitting and killing a pedestrian with his SUV on Friday morning, police say. The driver returned and has been jailed.
Around 6:30 a.m., Fernando Abraham Delosrios, 41, was driving his 2018 Dodge Durango on Northwest 77th Street toward 24th Street in Miami. An unidentified man was crossing the street, an arrest report read.
As the pedestrian stepped into the middle of the road, Delosrios ran him over and kept going, police say. Miami Fire Rescue treated the man, but he died at the scene.
Delosrios drove back to the area as a Miami police officer was walking through the scene. Delosrios’ Durango had significant damage to the front left hood and bumper.
While detained, Delosrios “spontaneously stated” that the man was crossing the road, it was dark and he panicked, according to police.
Delosrios was charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving a death. He was still in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Friday afternoon.
