Woman hospitalized after being shot on the Palmetto Expressway

A woman was shot in the chest while riding as a passenger in a car traveling on the Palmetto Expressway on Tuesday night, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
The shooting happened just after 9 p.m. in the area of NW 47th Avenue. Troopers say someone in a black Chevy Malibu, possibly with one blue fog light, opened fire on a white Hyundai sedan.
The woman, who was sitting as the front right passenger of the Hyundai, was struck in the chest and taken to Ryder Trauma Center. She is expected to live.
Eastbound State Road 826 was shut down for approximately two hours as authorities responded to the scene.
FHP is urging anyone with information about the suspect or the black Chevy Malibu to call *FHP (*347).
