The suspect in a stabbing that left a man dead in Brickell early yesterday morning likely fell to his death, according to the City of Miami Police Department. Whether the fall was intentional or accidental remains unclear.

Officers responded to a report of a man being stabbed around 2:16 a.m. Sunday and found the victim dead on the 34th floor of the Icon Residences by SS Vacation Rentals, a high rise at 485 Brickell Ave., with multiple stab wounds.

The incident set off a police response aided by drones and SWAT teams. Witnesses and surveillance footage confirmed that the suspect escaped into a neighboring building that was under construction, where police found him hours after a fatal fall.

Identities have not been released but are expected soon following approval from the homicide unit, said spokesperson Officer Kiara Delva. Authorities believe the two men had no relation to one another and ruled out suspicions of domestic violence.

“Apparently, there was an altercation upstairs, and there was a trail of blood along the street over to the other street and to a car park,” Robert Roper, a resident who lives on the building’s 23rd floor, told Miami Herald news partner CBS4. “It is a little bit unsettling at the moment. Hopefully, it was something relative to them and not random.”

Miami Police Chief Manny Morales said Sunday night that there was no threat to the public.

“We urge residents to remain vigilant and to ensure their homes are secure, especially during nighttime hours, to help prevent crimes and protect their safety,” he said in a statement.
