Nurse accused of pulling mother’s breathing tube. She ‘wanted her to go in peace,’ cops say
A Miami-Dade nurse practitioner is behind bars after she removed her mother’s breathing tube because she said she wanted her mother to die peacefully, deputies say.
Juansette Sabrina Green, 54, was arrested last week and faces a manslaughter charge. Green called her son and daughter to Northshore Medical Center, 1100 NW 95th St., on Friday morning to see her mother, who was hospitalized on May 5 due to shortness of breath.
While in the hospital, the mother’s health continued to deteriorate and she was transferred to intensive care, according to police.
When the children arrived, Green — a licensed nurse practitioner with more than 20 years of experience — said “I’m pulling out” and removed the intubation tube, according to her arrest report. An alarm was activated and medical staff responded to the room and rendered aid, but her mother died.
While staff tried to put the tube back in, Green told them to stop because she wanted her mother to “go in peace,” according to the arrest report.
That same evening, deputies came to Green’s home to speak with her, the report says. Green agreed to talk but said she wouldn’t do so at her home, so she was taken to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office headquarters in Doral. After police read Green her rights, she refused to say anything.
Green remained in Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Wednesday morning with bond yet to be set by a judge. Her attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Herald.
