A man died at a hospital after being shot several times in the Little River section of Miami on Friday afternoon, police said.

Officers went to the area of Northwest 4th Avenue and 71st Street shortly after 2 p.m. responding to reports of shots fired, said Officer Michael Vega, a department spokesman.

They found the man had gunshot wounds and was unconscious, Vega said. Miami Fire Rescue paramedics took him to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital in “very critical condition” and he died later in the afternoon, Vega said.

Police have not named the man.

The shooter remained at the scene, “cooperated and has been detained” for questioning, Vega said.

Police also found firearms at the scene, Vega said, adding that witnesses will be brought to the police station to be interviewed.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
