Several detained in narcotics raid at Little Haiti barber shop, Miami police say
Several people were detained in a drug raid at a Little Haiti barber shop Wednesday morning, according to Miami police.
Officers, including those in tactical gear, served a warrant around noon at the Fresh Kut Barber Salon at 5914 NE Second Ave.
Miami Herald reporters and a photographer saw at least seven people being detained with cable tie handcuffs and lined up against a wall in a nearby parking lot.
The Miami Police Department said its officers were serving a narcotics warrant.
Members of the Haitian community gathered in the neighborhood to see what going on, some expressing concern that it was immigration related.
“We were just trying to learn, I’m not scared. We just want to know what is going on,” said one woman.
Alex Pierre, a mechanic in the neighborhood, was surprised to learn the arrests were part of a narcotics investigation.
“I thought that was a barbershop only in there. They do that, wow. I had no idea.”
Pierre said he is friendly with many of the barbers who work in the shop and that one of the people arrested had arrived recently from Haiti.
