A Miami man is in jail after police say he stabbed his mother, grandmother in the head
A young man has been arrested after stabbing his mother and grandmother in the head with a kitchen knife in their Miami apartment on Monday, according to police.
Miami police say a woman returned to her home near Northwest 20th Avenue around 7:15 p.m., bringing back food from McDonald’s for her son, Camron Yarber, 21.
She then took a shower. When she came out, she found Yarber standing on her bed, yelling she was not his mother, according to his arrest affidavit.
Yarber’s grandmother came in and tried to calm him down, but to no avail, police said.
Yarber, according to police, ran into the kitchen and grabbed a knife and stabbed his mother in the head. She tried to wrap her arms around him but he escaped and stabbed his grandmother in the head and face.
Both women escaped while Yarber fled down the elevator. The women made it to the building’s management office, where a witness attempted to stop the bleeding and called 911.
Emergency responders transported the two women to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where they were treated with stitches and staples.
Police say a pool of blood was found in front of their apartment, and a knife in the elevator.
Police found Yarber across the street from the apartment. After reading him his rights, police say Yarber kept repeating that he did not understand.
Yarber has been charged with two counts of attempted murder. He remained jailed at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Tuesday, jail records show.
