Wife accused of killing husband, injuring son after firing gun at Miami-Gardens home

A Miami Gardens woman is accused of killing her husband and wounding her son after firing a gun multiple times inside her home during a “domestic violence” dispute over the weekend, according to police.

Shaneeka Harris, 39, sits in Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center after being granted no bond Monday on a charge of second degree murder.

Around 6:40 a.m. Friday, gunshots drew police to 19336 NW 46th Ave., where police say they found a man — Aaron Swatts — lying on the floor of the entrance of the upstairs bedroom with a gunshot to his back. The teenager was shot in the right thigh, according to Harris’s arrest report.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue took them to Aventura Hospital, where the Swatts died.

According to the arrest report, Harris lived at the house with her two sons. She married Swatts in 2022, but they did not live together, the report states.

Miami Gardens police said Friday the shooting happened during a “domestic violence dispute.”

The narrative explaining the circumstances of the shooting was redacted from Harris’ arrest report. But, the report explains that when detectives listened to the 911 call made by Harris’s younger son, she is heard in the background saying, “This man made me shoot my [expletive son.]

Detectives found three shell casings in the house from a 9 mm handgun. One casing was “consistent with one warning shot fired inside the bedroom,” and two more casing were found in the hallway that showed “subsequent shots fired outside the bedroom,” the report states.

County sources say Swatts worked for Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department and died at 7:51 a.m. Friday.
