Miami father confronts intruder at gunpoint — discovers abuse of 16-year-old son: MPD
A father thought a man broke into his Miami home Monday afternoon, so he pulled out his gun and pointed it at him; soon after, however, police discovered the 55-year-old was there to sexually abuse his 16-year-old son, according to authorities.
Around 5 p.m., Miami Police officers were called to a home and told to “hurry up,” an arrest report read. When they arrived, the teen boy’s father told them he had Kohl Matthias, 55, at gunpoint inside his home after initially presuming it was a break-in.
After a conversation with the teenager, investigators said they learned Matthias was in the house visiting the boy and ended up in his bedroom, where the sexual abuse occurred.
They met March 12 on Grindr, a dating app, the report read. On Monday, the teen reached out to Matthias, inviting him to his house and sending nude pictures.
The teen heard someone enter the home while the two were in his room. He instructed Matthias to stay there while he stepped out and saw his father in the living room.
The father then began checking every room, found Matthias and called 911.
Matthias was arrested and charged with unlawful sexual activity with a specified minor. As of Tuesday, he was released from the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and ordered to stay away from the teen.
