A Miami-Dade deputy fatally shot a man at a hotel near Miami-International Airport on Monday night.

Around 9:40 p.m., MDSO homicide detectives were at the Extended Stay America, 6605 NW Seventh Street, conducting surveillance on a man they say was involved in a fatal double shooting on Sunday, according to investigators.

Detectives tried stopping the man as he left the hotel and got into his car, said Detective Angel Rodriguez. But, this led to an exchange of gunfire between the man and detectives and he was fatally shot, Rodriguez said.

The man, whom police have not identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooting is under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the state agency that investigates most officer-involved shootings.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
