Deputies investigate fatal shooting at a Wawa store in Southwest Miami-Dade

A man died at the hospital following a shooting at a Wawa parking lot in the Princeton area of southwest Miami-Dade County in Monday afternoon, according to deputies.

The shooting happened shortly after 5 p.m. at the store, located at Southwest 248th Street and 112th Avenue.

When deputies arrived, they found one person who was shot, said Detective Angel Rodriguez said.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue paramedics airlifted the man to Jackson South Medical Center, where “despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead, Rodriguez said. The helicopter took off from a field located about a quarter mile away from the shooting.

Witnesses at the scene provided a description of the man who pulled the trigger and his vehicle, and deputies located him shortly after and took him into custody after conducting a traffic stop, Rodriguez said.

A witness, who did not want to be identified, told the Herald the shooting happened following an argument at the store.

Evidence markers could be seen on the pavement of the parking lot, and police had parts of the property lined off with crime scene tape.

The Sheriff’s Office’s Homicide Bureau is investigating the shooting, Rodriguez said. .
