Welfare check led to murder-suicide discovery at Pompano Beach home, BSO deputies say

A welfare check at a Pompano Beach home in a senior living community led to the discovery of a murder-suicide after three people were found fatally shot Wednesday night, deputies said.

Around 7 p.m., Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to perform a welfare check at the home in the 300 block of South Golf Boulevard, nestled inside Leisureville Pompano Beach, a community for people ages 55+, according to officials.

Two cars were parked in the driveway, but no one answered the door. After deputies noticed the mailbox overflowing, Pompano Beach Fire was called to force their way inside.

Emergency crews then found a woman and two men shot to death, the sheriff’s office said. Detectives believe 80-year-old James Sheridan killed the two unidentified victims before turning the gun on himself.

The names of the victims are being withheld pending next-of-kin notification. BSO’s homicide unit is still investigating.
