Uber driver accused of sexually battering a woman on Dolphin Expressway in Miami: FHP
An Uber driver took advantage of a woman customer — forcing her to touch and perform a sexual act on him — on the side of the Dolphin Expressway late Sunday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The driver was identified Monday as 35-year-old Yaroslandys Elozegui Romero, according to an arrest report.
The woman’s friend called her an Uber on his phone around 10 p.m. because her phone wasn’t charged, according to the report.
Romero picked her up in his Toyota Highlander SUV. When she got in, she asked him for a phone charged. He provided one, then asked her to sit up front so she could plug in her phone, the report states.
That’s when he began touching her arm and asking her for a kiss, police say. When she refused his advances, he pulled over on the westbound shoulder of State Road 836 near Le Jeune Road and grabbed her closer to him, according to the report.
The woman told police that the more she resisted, the more aggressive Romero became, the report states.
After sexually assaulting the woman, Romero dropped her off at the destination that she put in on the Uber app, according to the report.
Police were able to track down the Toyota to Romero’s home at NW 56th Street in Miami, where officers interviewed him after reading him his rights, according to the report. He confirmed the woman’s account, but said she appeared to have been drinking was touching him.
Police, however, said in the arrest report that the woman showed no signs of inebriation when they spoke with her earlier.
Romero was booked into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on charges of sexual battery, battery and indecent exposure.
A judge set bond at $25,000 for the first count and $29,000 each for the other two counts.
