Two men were aboard a Miami trolley when a fight broke out between the pair. One was stabbed to death, according to police.

At around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Miami police say 46-year-old Lamont Collins and 49-year-old Adolf Bailey Bruce were riding in the same trolley near Biscayne Boulevard and 29th Street.

Surveillance video from the trolley shows the two headed toward the exit when Collins “charged” at Bruce and told him to back off, according to Collins’ arrest report.

The two began to argue and Collins pulled out a knife. That’s when, police say, the driver stopped in the middle of the road and tried to de-escalate the situation. It didn’t work.

Collins’ could be heard saying: “ I’m not a coward. I’d rather die than go to jail.”

The two continued to yell at each other, with Bruce telling Collins, “Let’s go.”

This was when the situation turned physical and they “put their hands on each other,” police wrote in Collins’ arrest report.

Collins stabbed Bruce multiple times as he backed away and put his arms up to shield himself, police said. Collins continued the attack until the two fell into a seat at the back of the trolley, according to police.

“The victim eventually fell towards the walkway of the trolley, at which time the defendant stood over him and stabbed him several more times in the neck,” detectives wrote in Collins’ arrest report.

When the trolley doors opened, Collins ran out, according to police.

At 2:44 p.m. Miami officers arrived at the trolley and found Bruce on the ground covered in blood next to the trolley. He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital but was pronounced dead by 3:07 p.m.

Collins’ was quickly found and charged with second-degree murder. He is being held at Turner Guilford Correctional Center. Jail records show his bond status is “to be set” as of Wednesday morning.
