A man was fatally shot by a Fort Lauderdale officer on Sunday afternoon, according to police.

The shooting occurred just after 3 p.m. at a Chevron gas station located at 3100 Davie Blvd., police say. Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue transported the man to Broward Health Medical Center, where he died.

Police haven’t released the man’s identity as of Sunday evening.

Before the shooting, officers tried to pull over the man on the 100 block of Southwest 27th Avenue, just over a mile away from the gas station. The vehicle, according to police, didn’t stop until entering the Chevron.

Then, police say, the man exited his vehicle with “what appeared to be a firearm” — and an officer shot him.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will be investigating the shooting. The involved officer, according to police, will be placed on administrative leave with pay.
