Off-duty officer shoots dead 2 dogs that he says were attacking his animals, BSO says
An off-duty Lauderhill police officer shot dead two dogs outside a Tamarac motel Monday that he said were attacking his pets, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
Around noon, sheriff’s office spokesman Carey Codd deputies found the dead dogs when they arrived at the Extended Stay America, located at 3873 West Commercial Blvd.
Detectives’ preliminary investigation indicates the now-deceased dogs were attacking two other canines that belonged to the Lauderhill officer, who Codd said killed the animals to protect his pets.
The shooting happened at the motel’s parking lot, Codd added.
It was not immediately known in the officer was staying at the Extended Stay, nor if the dogs that were shot belonged to someone staying at the motel.
“The investigation is active and ongoing,” Codd said.
