A woman’s attempt to buy marijuana while staying at a Biscayne Boulevard motel ended in the dealer shooting her boyfriend multiple times in the chest last month, police say. Police have just arrested the alleged dealer and shooter.

On Dec. 13 around 2:20 a.m. Miami Police officers arrived at Carl’s El Padre Motel, 5950 NE Biscayne Blvd, and found a man in his 30s with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition, according to police, but he survived his injuries.

Police say they received seven alerts from ShotSpotter — a series of microphones placed in public places to record gunshot noises.

The victim’s girlfriend told police she had contacted 29-year-old K’Andre Malyk Dorival to buy marijuana that evening. Dorival arrived at the motel, entered room #5, and stayed briefly while the woman was not in the room, according to his arrest report. After he left, the woman realized her boyfriend had been gone for an unusually long time after mentioning he was going to the store. When she stepped outside, she found him lying on the ground with gunshot wounds and called 911, according to police.

Police say the woman did not know Dorival’s name but provided police with his phone number and described his vehicle, a white Toyota Camry.

Surveillance footage showed Dorival leaving the motel room and returning to his car. The victim later approached Dorival’s car on the driver’s side, and the two appeared to be speaking before Dorival shot the man multiple times and fled the scene, according to police. It is unclear why Dorival shot at the victim.

At the time she did not know Dorival’s name but gave police his phone number and said he was driving a white car.

The victim’s girlfriend was able to give police a description and identify Dorival from a photo lineup.

Police located Dorival on Monday and brought him in for questioning. He was then arrested and charged with second-degree attempted murder and displaying a firearm while committing a felony.

Jail records show he remains in Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Tuesday afternoon.
