Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives are looking for a group of people they say fatally ran over 30 Egyptian geese in a Cooper City neighborhood Saturday night.

The sheriff’s office said that the birds were deliberately hit by an off-road vehicle with around four to five young adults inside around 7:45 p.m. near Southwest 49th Street and Southwest 120th Avenue.

The attack happened in the lake easement between the Flamingo Gardens West subdivision and the Countryside Shops Plaza, said Gerdy St. Louis, a sheriff’s office spokeswoman. The vehicle was last seen turning into the Flamingo Townhomes neighborhood, St. Louis said.

Detectives obtained video of the incident, according to the sheriff’s office.

Egyptian geese are a species of waterfowl that originated in Africa and has established populations in the United States and Europe, according to the website All About Birds. They are increasingly seen in South Florida neighborhoods and parks.

Broward detectives are seeking the public’s help in catching the people responsible for the birds’ deaths, and Broward Crime Stoppers is offering an reward for up to $5,000 for information that leads to arrests, St. Louis said.

Anyone with information on the vehicle or the whereabouts of the people involved is asked to contact BSO Special Victims Unit Detective Charoudis Dimos at 954-321-4243 or submit a tip through the SaferWatch app.

Those wanting to remain anonymous can submit a tip to Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 or online at browardcrimestoppers.org.
