Man shot to death in Broward on Thanksgiving Day, deputies say. Neighbor detained
A 71-year-old man was shot to death in Broward on Thanksgiving Day after getting into a dispute with a neighbor, who claimed self-defense, deputies say.
Shortly after 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Hureleyon McLean was gunned down in the 2800 block of Somerset Drive in Lauderdale Lakes. He was already dead when first responders arrived.
The alleged shooter was Hureleyon McLean’s neighbor, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said Friday. He was detained on the scene and the investigation revealed the two got into a dispute before McLean was shot, according to BSO. The agency had yet to identify the shooter as of Friday afternoon.
“The neighbor cooperated with detectives and was brought to the Public Safety Building to be interviewed, where a claim of self-defense was presented,” BSO said in a statement on Friday.
Hureleyon’s wife, Rose McLean, told Miami Herald news partner CBS Miami that the incident happened over loud music.
“He was playing his music today and the guy said he was playing it too loud. My husband went down there to him,” she told the station.
Then she heard gunshots. She ran outside to find her husband on the ground. Their neighbor also threatened to shoot her, she told CBS Miami.
After the investigation, the case will be presented to the Broward County State Attorney’s Office to determine if criminal charges will be filed, according to BSO.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to the scene.
