A group of people were having a late-night conversation in a Miami parking lot on election night when a woman grew agitated and pulled out a gun — opening fire and injuring three women, according to police.

The shooting occurred on Nov. 6, around 12:25 a.m., in a parking lot at 547 NW 19th Street. The victims told police they had been “talking about the election, drinking, and vibing” when Brianna Sands who appeared heavily intoxicated, began acting strange.

Sands was asked to leave, police say, but the 26-year-old instead pulled a gun from her back pocket and began shooting.

The Miami Police Department’s ShotSpotter system detected seven rounds fired. Responding officers saw a Black Hyundai Genesis speeding away and stopped the vehicle. Inside, they found one victim with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Miami Fire Rescue transported her to the Jackson Memorial Hospital.

One victim told police that she fled and felt a burning sensation before later realizing she had been shot. She and another victim, who was also wounded, were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital by an unidentified woman, police say.

Although one victim was initially unable to provide a full statement due to her injuries, police say all three later identified Sands as the shooter during police photo lineups nearly a week after the incident.

On Tuesday, detectives located Sands at a Miami Beach apartment complex where they arrested her. She faces multiple charges including three counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon.

She’s in custody at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Wednesday afternoon.
