A man has pleaded not guilty to charges of killing a man, burning his body, stealing his car and leading police on a chase that ended in a crash near south Miami-Dade over the weekend.

Roiniel Perez, 31, was arrested Sunday after police spotted him driving the car of the murdered Oscar Rene Hernandez Augustin who was reported missing on Nov. 12.

Miami-Dade Police officers would find Hernandez Augustin, 52, dead two days after he went missing on the side of a dirt road on the 23600 block of Southwest 227th Avenue in the Redland with his body charred from the waist down, according to the arrest report.

Perez is accused of murdering Hernandez Augustin after the medical examiner’s office ruled his death a homicide and that he had been stabbed multiple times.

Police say on Sunday, officers spotted Hernandez Augustin’s Toyota Corolla being driven by Perez. After officers attempted to pull Perez over, they say he instead took off and ran a red light before crashing into another car.

“Both vehicles were totaled with airbags deployed,” the arrest report stated.

Perez then fled on foot but was arrested after trying to hide under a parked car at Hidalgo’s Cafe-Restaurant in Homestead, according to police.

He was taken into custody and found to have Hernandez Augustin’s wallet and Wells Fargo Bank card, which police say he confessed to using multiple times.

Perez admitted to picking Hernandez Augustin up on Nov. 12 at about 4:45 a.m. at his home, cops say, but Hernandez Augustin was never seen again. The relationship between the two is unclear.

Perez consented to a search of his cell phone that revealed pictures taken inside the Toyota Corolla which “depicted bloodstained rear seats, bank cards, and the victim’s identification,” according to authorities.

There was also a picture of Perez, dated Nov. 13, that showed his hand with multiple cuts that detectives say he could not explain.

“The victim’s vehicle was processed, revealing a substantial amount of blood in the rear seats and multiple pairs of blue latex gloves, which was consistent with ones left on the scene where the victim was found,” cops say.

Perez faces multiple charges including second-degree murder, grand theft of a vehicle and fleeing and eluding police.

He entered a plea of not guilty on Monday, court records show. His attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Perez remains in custody at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Tuesday morning, jail records indicate.
