Miami man jailed after string of explicit texts and images to 12-year-old girl, police say

A 37-year-old man was jailed after detectives posed as the 12-year-old girl he had been having explicit phone conversations with for a month, according to the Miami Police Department.

Police said the girl’s mother noticed her daughter was acting strange on Wednesday when she asked to go outside twice. Her mother said no. Police claimed that the 12-year-old did this to try to meet 37-year-old Yosvany Fernandez Gonzalez, who had been sending her explicit texts and images of himself.

The messages were revealed after the mother thought her daughter’s behavior was suspicious and went through her phone, according to police.

The next day, the concerned mother reported her findings to the Miami Police South Station.

The victim told police that about a month ago she went to the lobby of her building to meet her father and help him carry groceries. This is when Gonzalez approached her and asked for her phone number and age. The girl told him she was 12, to which he responded that “he did not mind” and said he was 27, according to his arrest report.

Gonzalez then began sending her pictures and videos of himself masturbating and tried to meet up with the girl multiple times, according to his arrest report.

The victim told police he sent her messages saying “I want to f--- you” and to erase everything, according to his arrest report.

Detectives then took hold of the victim’s phone and began to message Gonzalez.

After detectives and Gonzalez had many back-and-forth messages, including him saying “I want to see you because I like you, I want to give you a kiss,” they agreed to meet at a Target, according to his arrest report.

Detectives were ready to apprehend him when he arrived.

He was questioned by detectives and agreed to a search of his electronics, which had four nude pictures of the victim, police said.

He was arrested on Thursday and hit with charges that include lewd and lascivious conduct on a child, transmission of material harmful to minors by electronic device and possession of images of sexual performance by a child.

He was at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $55,000 bond as of Friday afternoon, jail records show.
