Man charged with double homicide after gunning down 2 men at Redland plant nursery: cops
A man faces two counts of murder after police say he repeatedly shot two men on a dirt road at a south Miami-Dade County plant nursery Sunday evening.
Eric Jose Garcia, 35, was driving on the nursery’s property located in the Redland agricultural area at 21495 SW 240th St. — which is also where he lives — in his Ford Ranger pickup truck shortly after 5 p.m. when he came across a Ford F-250 pickup that was blocking his path, according to police.
Two men were standing outside the other truck, identified Monday as Juan Miguel Menjivar, 53, and William Galdamez Menjivar, 40, police said in their arrest report.
Garcia got out of his truck holding a handgun and shot both men, according to police. Already wounded, the report reveals both tried running away — but Garcia kept firing at them until they were dead.
After killing them, Garcia called police. Responding officers took Garcia into custody and took him to a Homicide interview room. After being read his rights, he told them both men were holding beer bottles.
He told police that he asked the men to move their pickup truck, and they said no. The older Manjivar hit the hood of his truck with a beer bottle, he told police. Garcia then said he felt the two men were getting too close to his driver’s side door.
Asked about why he kept shooting, Garcia said “he wanted to execute them both, ensuring they were dead,” police stated in their report.
As of Monday afternoon, Garcia was being held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. A judge had not set his bond for his two second-degree murder charges. Information regarding his legal representation was not immediately available.
