A man was hospitalized after a shooting Tuesday morning in Miami Gardens that police say resulted from an argument between an uncle and his nephew.

The shooting happened around 9:30 a.m. in the 2500 block of Northwest 161st Street, a Miami Gardens police spokesperson said in an email. When officers arrived, they found the nephew, who has not been named and his age not given, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to police.

Police say the two men argued and both of them pulled out guns, and the uncle fired his weapon.

It was not immediately clear if the uncle was arrested or is facing charges. Police did not name him, but noted that he stayed on the scene after the shooting.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue paramedics took the nephew to the hospital, and the police spokesperson said he was in surgery Tuesday afternoon.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
