Miami Police SWAT team called to domestic violence standoff involving armed woman: cops
A woman threatening her boyfriend with a gun Tuesday night prompted a large SWAT response by Miami police after the woman barricaded herself inside an apartment.
Around 8:50 p.m., officers began investigating a domestic violence report involving a couple in the area of SW 17th Terrace and 22nd Avenue, according to Kiara Delva, spokeswoman for the Miami Police Department.
The man reported that his girlfriend of six years, 40-year-old Meghan Goicouria, had threatened him with a gun, police say.
According to Goicouria’s arrest report, the couple had been fighting since Saturday and the boyfriend had concerns over how Goicouria had been treating her daughter. The couple share one son.
The boyfriend, whom police did not identify, told police Goicouria became “irate” Tuesday night and began pointing a gun at him while yelling, “Can’t do this anymore. Get the f*** out.”
He then grabbed his belongings and left Goicouria and their son inside the home, according to the arrest report.
When police arrived, she refused to exit the apartment, leading to a barricaded situation. Authorities called in SWAT and hostage negotiators, who are trained to handle armed standoffs, Delva said.
After a standoff that ran into early Wednesday morning, the woman surrendered to police, with no injuries reported, Delva said.
She was arrested and faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and child neglect with no bodily harm.
Her bond has been set for $5,000 on the assault charge; the bond amount for the child neglect charge has yet to be set.
