The man found dead Monday inside of a Ford pickup truck parked on the shoulder of the Palmetto Expressway was shot, Hialeah police say.

Detectives believe he may have been murdered and launched a homicide investigation.

“The victim was shot and yes we are treating this as a homicide investigation,” Lt. Eddie Rodriguez, a Hialeah police spokesman, told the Herald in an email Tuesday afternoon.

Shortly after noon Monday, Florida Highway Patrol troopers were the first on scene near NW 103rd Street after receiving a call about the discovery of a body in a vehicle on the side of the road, said Lt. Alex Camacho, a spokesman for the agency.

The FHP turned over the investigation to Hialeah police.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the case to call 305-687-2525, or Miami-Dade CrimeStoppers at 305-471-8477.
