The drive home from a party in Miami Gardens turned fatal Sunday night when a gunman fired at a car with two men and three children inside, police say.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m., police responded to the 4500 block of NW 183rd Street after a hail of bullets struck the vehicle — and the men inside. The driver, identified as 20-year-old Mah’ki Eugene Cutler, died after being airlifted to a nearby hospital.

The adult passenger survived. Police say he was no longer in critical condition as of Monday afternoon.

The three children weren’t harmed by the gunfire. One of the children was related to Cutler, and the other two are related to the adult passenger, according to police.

Through a preliminary investigation, authorities uncovered that the car was traveling westbound on Northwest 183rd Street at the time of the shooting. Police have yet to identify a shooter but say they are searching for a dark-colored SUV.

Anyone with information about this incident should contact Homicide Det. M. Lissade at 305-474-1620 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
