A Lauderhill police officer was placed on administrative leave following his arrest in Sunrise on a digital voyeurism charge this week, according to his department.

Sunrise police said the arrest of Officer Johnny Alejandro Mateo on Tuesday is part of an open criminal investigation “for an off-duty incident,” Lauderhill police Lt. Antonio Gonzalez said in a statement.

Gonzalez did not provide details of the accusation, and Sunrise police did not immediately respond to questions from the Miami Herald. The case wasn’t filed on the Broward Clerk of the Court website as of Thursday.

Lauderhill hired Mateo in 2017, Gonzalez said.
