‘Most Wanted’ fugitive arrested in fatal shooting of rapper at Miami Beach nightclub
A man on the 15 Most Wanted Fugitive List in the United States has been arrested on a murder warrant in the fatal shooting of rapper Lowell “Lo” Grissom at a Miami Beach nightclub last year, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
Deshawn “Thorobread” Davis, 36, the alleged gunman, was brought into custody Monday in Redway, Calif., by U.S. Marshals deputies. Davis is suspected of opening fire during a party at the GALA Miami nightclub on May 7, 2023, and killing Grissom, a Miami rapper who was also a talent scout for Chris Brown Entertainment.
Davis, of Canada, is also suspected of injuring two women in the shooting, the Marshals said in a news release.
The three victims were hit just before 4 a.m. that Sunday inside the GALA at 235 23rd St. in South Beach. All three were taken to Jackson’s Ryder Trauma Center, where Grissom died.
Miami Beach police believe the murder was a targeted attack with a “gang nexus,” the news release said.
It is unclear when Davis will be transferred for prosecution by the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office.
According to the U.S. Marshals, Davis was already a fugitive in Canada when the South Florida murder took place. In February 2023, the Ontario Provincial Police charged Davis and two others with the January 2022 kidnapping of Elnaz Hajtamiri.
Elnaz was kidnapped from a relative’s house in Wasaga Beach, Ontario, on the night of Jan. 12, 2022, and placed in an SUV before disappearing. She has not been found. Her ex-boyfriend was charged with murder.
“I commend the men and women of the Marshals Service and our partners for the capture of Deshawn Davis,” U.S. Marshals Service Director Ronald L. Davis said in a statement. “It is our hope that this apprehension brings justice to his victims and safety to the community.”
The USMS in the Southern District of Florida and the USMS Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force (FCRFTF) executed the Miami Beach Police murder warrant and have been collaborating with Canadian law-enforcement authorities to locate Davis. He was believed to be in the United States.
Davis was elevated to the U.S. Marshals 15 Most Wanted Fugitive list on Aug. 1 for both the South Florida murder and the kidnapping in Canada, authorities said.
