Police find car linked to drive-by that killed toddler at Fort Lauderdale birthday party
Police have located one of the cars involved in a Sunday drive-by shooting that killed a toddler at a birthday party in Fort Lauderdale.
The boy, identified Monday as 3-year-old Rylo Yancy, had been attending a party at Riverland Park & Pool, 950 SW 27th Ave. Local television cameras showed a playground decorated in a Sesame Street theme beyond crime scene tape after the shooting that occurred around 4:30 p.m.
The shooters, police say, fled the scene after firing a barrage of bullets. No arrests have been made in connection to the boy’s killing.
Investigators responded to the park after receiving multiple 911 calls about the gunfire. Police released a 7-minute recording of the calls, which detailed the frantic scene as witnesses shouted for an ambulance.
“A baby just got shot,” a panicked woman told the operator in between breaths. “We’re at Riverland Park.”
“Please hurry up,” another woman repeated.
Rylo, who had sustained a gunshot wound, was transported to Broward Health Medical Center, where he died.
