A woman and her 4-year-old daughter were shot to death inside a car on Florida’s Turnpike late Friday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol and Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Beatrice Saintvil and her daughter were found by Florida Highway Patrol troopers inside a car that was parked in the left break down lane near mile marker 49 just south of Hollywood Boulevard, according to BSO spokeswoman Claudinne Caro’s report. Both had been shot. Hollywood Fire Rescue transported Saintvil to a local hospital where she died. Her daughter was dead in the car.

BSO did not release the name of the 4-year-old girl or Saintvil’s age or any other details about them. Detectives also did not release any information on whoever may have shot the mother and daughter.

Lt. Indiana Miranda said FHP troopers responded to a report of a shooting on the turnpike in the northbound lanes shortly before midnight Friday. Once they arrived, they found a woman and the girl inside the car. Both had gunshot wounds. Caro said the shooting happened around 11:15 p.m. Friday.

FHP requested aid from Broward Sheriff’s Homicide Unit to investigate the fatal shooting.

The turnpike was closed in both directions early Saturday morning, but has since reopened, Caro said.

The investigation continues.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477. Detectives are also asking that anyone with information regarding the shooting, identity or location of the subject or subjects to contact BSO Homicide Detective Ryan Schnakenberg at 954-321-4247 or submit a tip through the SaferWatch app. Any Crime Stoppers tip that leads to an arrest in this case is eligible for a reward of up to $5,000, according to BSO.
