2 men killed after Christmas Day shooting in Pompano Beach corner store, deputies say
A person has been detained after a Christmas Day shooting inside a Pompano Beach convenience store left two men dead Monday night, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Around 7:20 p.m., deputies went to the 400 block of Northwest 27th Avenue in response to a large crowd and cars blocking the road, the sheriff’s office said Tuesday afternoon in a news release. Over an hour later, at about 8:40 p.m., deputies rushed to a nearby convenience store, 401 Northwest 27th Ave., after shots were fired inside.
Deputies found Quaavon Ellis and Brandon McNair with gunshot wounds inside the store, the sheriff’s office said. Pompano Beach Fire Rescue paramedics took them to a hospital where both were pronounced dead. Their ages are not yet known.
The shooter’s name has not been released and charges are yet to be filed.
“The preliminary investigation reveals that an altercation occurred between the shooter and the two individuals and shots were fired inside the store,” the sheriff’s office said. “Deputies detained the shooter on scene for questioning and, at this time, detectives do not believe any other shooters were involved in the incident.”
After homicide detectives finish their investigation, they will present the case to the Broward County State Attorney’s Office for review, the sheriff’s office said.
