Man confessed to shooting, killing his ex and her daughter at Flagami condo, cops say
A man turned himself in and confessed to shooting and killing his ex and her daughter at a Flagami gated condo building on Wednesday morning, Miami police said.
The ex-boyfriend arrived at Yolanda Villas Condo, 801 NW 47th Ave., entered the women’s apartment unit, and opened fire around 9 a.m., said Officer Kiara Delva, a Miami police spokeswoman.
After shooting both women, the man sped away in a vehicle and turned himself in at a West Miami police station, Delva told reporters outside the apartment complex.
Police identified the shooter’s ex as Irisbel Cartalla, 50, and her daughter as Isbelsy Olivera, 22. Cartalla’s birthday was in three days and Olivera’s was next week. The man accused of killing them hadn’t been identified as of Wednesday afternoon.
“The suspect, who is the possible ex-husband of the [older] victim, arrived at the location and somehow managed to ambush both the mother and the daughter,” Delva told reporters.
It’s unknown how the man gained access to the building, Delva said. Someone witnessed the shooting but wasn’t harmed.
Detectives were at the scene late Wednesday morning gathering forensic evidence and speaking with possible witnesses.
