Video shows arsonist setting Broward church on fire. Do you recognize the lawbreaker?

Broward detectives on Thursday are asking for the public’s help to find a person caught on video setting the front doors of a Fort Lauderdale-area church on fire.

Around 1:40 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14, a fire was reported at the Power Outreach Ministry, 2600 NW 21st Ave., in Oakland Park, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

After firefighters extinguished the flames, the Oakland Park City Fire Marshal determined the fire to be arson.

The blaze caused more than $1,000 in damage, investigators say.

The church’s security footage shows an individual carrying a gas can onto the property’s parking lot, pouring liquid on the front doors and setting a paper towel on fire.

The arsonist then used the paper towel to set the doors on fire — causing their shoes to briefly be engulfed in flames before fleeing westbound on Northwest 26th Street.

Anyone with information on the identity or whereabouts of the individual in the video is asked to contact BSO Detective Robert O’Dor at 954-321-4849. If tipsters wish to remain anonymous, they can contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or visit browardcrimestoppers.org online. Tipsters can also dial **TIPS (8477) from any cellphone in the United States.
