A home invasion in a Doral apartment ended Saturday morning with the suspect being shot by police, the Doral police chief said.

This happened at the AMLI Doral, an apartment complex at 11481 NW 41st St.

A statement obtained by Herald news partner CBS Miami said the home invasion occurred around 4:20 a.m., victimizing residents described by police as “an elderly couple and a middle-aged man.”

Doral Police Chief Edwin Lopez told media on the scene that the suspect was returning to the apartment, unaware police had been called.

“Officers made contact with this individual who, after loud verbal commands, failed to comply with the officer’s request,” Lopez said. “After an altercation, the officer shot this individual. The individual collapsed and was pronounced dead on the scene.”

As is standard, Florida Department of Law Enforcement will handle the investigation of the shooting.
