Bicyclist hospitalized after being hit by a car in Key Biscayne. Cops searching for driver
A bicyclist is in critical condition after being sideswiped by a car in Key Biscayne, police said. The driver sped off and still has not been caught.
Around 10 p.m. Tuesday, Miami-Dade police said the 48-year-old man was riding his bike on Crandon Boulevard when he was hit by an unknown vehicle.
The driver of the car fled the scene without stopping to help the victim, who sustained a head injury.
The bicyclist, who was not identified, is in critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital, police said.
Aristides Maza Duerto told WSVN 7 News his cousin Carlos Trevisson Maza was struck by the car.
“I felt a car going by me, and then I saw my cousin just flying out of the lane in front of me,” Duerto told the station.
Duerto said it was a black SUV and it had almost hit him, too. His cousin did two flips in the air before hitting the ground.
“[He was on the ground] he tried to move,” he said. “I asked him not to move. I asked him to stay down. He was bleeding.”
Duerto said they were both in the bike lane at the time of the crash.
