Former Dade athlete dies after being shot in the leg

Former Miami Beach High basketball player Marquise Warren died Wednesday after being shot behind his home in Northeast Miami-Dade County.

Warren’s relatives told Miami Herald news partner WFOR-Channel 4 that he was taking out the trash at their home in the 1300 block of Northeast 147th Street when they heard a booming shot. He crawled back in with a gunshot wound to the leg. Despite getting Warren to Aventura Hospital, the blood loss proved too great. Warren’s death is being investigated as a homicide.

The 20-year-old Warren had no criminal record. He played for the Dade team in the 2014 Tournament of Champions Tri-County All-Star Game after a senior year at Miami Beach High in which he averaged 10.9 points, 8.4 assists and 3.7 steals per game.
