A child was drowning at a Florida hotel pool. His 6-year-old sister came to the rescue
A weekend family outing took a terrifying turn Friday night at a South Florida hotel.
According to West Palm Beach police, 911 dispatchers received a call just before 8 p.m. about an unconscious 5-year-old pulled from the pool at a Springhill Suites Hotel. He was “not breathing.”
The victim’s 6-year-old sister spotted her brother in a dire straits at the bottom of the pool, grabbed him with the help of an 11-year-old girl, and alerted the adults, police said.
While police and fire crews rushed to the hotel, the person on the line was given instructions on CPR.
It worked. Bystanders administered the life-saving measure and “the victim was resuscitated,” according to police. Within two minutes of the call, the first responding officer arrived to the hotel on Metrocentre Boulevard East, and advised the child was breathing.

The 5-year-old was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, where he was reported to be “conscious, but not fully alert.”
Officers later determined that a family that lived in the area was at the hotel with about 20 other people when the little boy began to drown.
