A man tried to wrangle his loose dog when they were hit by a car in Miami-Dade, police say

Willie Moore III was trying to wrangle his loose dog when they were both hit by a car in Northwest Miami-Dade, police said.

Moore was seriously hurt and his dog died. The driver of the Nissan Altima took off without getting help, police said.

On Monday, authorities released video of the March 9 crash in hopes of tracking down the driver.

The crash happened at about 11:30 p.m. in the area of Northwest 20th Avenue and Northwest 95th Street.

Moore was crossing south on Northwest 20th Avenue when police say a Nissan Altima heading west on Northwest 95th Avenue hit them.

The driver made a U-turn, stopped briefly, and then left, police said. Moore was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition.

The Altima likely has driver’s side and front-end damage, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
