Two 20-year-olds shot, one died, on the Palmetto Expressway near Hialeah, cops say

THURSDAY MORNING UPDATE: Miami-Dade police released the names of the men shot.

The Palmetto Expressway double shooting that shut down the highway’s northbound lanes during Wednesday’s rush hour left one 20-year-old man dead.

Timothy Starks, the passenger and a rapper known as Baby Cino, died. Hialeah Fire District Chief David Rodriguez said the passenger was shot multiple times.

Rodriguez said driver Dante Collins Banks was shot in the abdomen. He was flown to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital in stable condition, Miami-Dade police said.

After Banks and Starks were shot, the Nissan crashed into the wall at the ramp of the northbound Palmetto entrance off Okechobee Road, just inside Hialeah city limits. The identities of the shooter or shooters is also not known, but Miami-Dade police said a dark-colored vehicle was seen speeding away from the area.

The ensuing investigation shut down the northbound lanes of the Palmetto until 11 p.m.

Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers of Miami at 305-471-8477 (TIPS) or 866-471-8477 or at the Crime Stoppers website.
