Cops arrest a man after they say he fled the scene of a deadly hit-and-run in Hialeah
A man was arrested Sunday night after he fled the scene of a hit-and-run in Hialeah that left a 63-year-old man dead over the weekend, according to authorities.
Court records show Tashun Hardy, a 24-year-old from Illinois, was charged with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a deadly crash. Hardy’s next court hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
Around 8 p.m. Saturday, Hardy was driving a rental 2020 Black Jaguar F-Pace south on Southeast Eight Avenue through the center turn-only lanes “passing all the cars in regular traffic,” Lt. Eddie Rodriguez of the Hialeah Police Department on Monday told the Herald in an email.
Once at the intersection of Southeast Eighth Avenue and Southeast Fourth Street, Rodriguez added that “he veered into oncoming traffic and went head-on with the victim’s pick-up truck.”
After the crash, Hardy abandoned his rental vehicle and ran away without stopping to help Fermin Zurita — the driver of the pick-up truck, Rodriguez said. Zurita was pronounced dead at the scene.
Aside from his latest arrest, there is an active warrant out against Hardy in Illinois for failure to appear in court after he was charged last year with driving on a revoked license, according to records from the Will County Sheriff’s Office.
That came after he pleaded guilty to driving without a license in 2018, Will County’s court records show.
