Miami man used waterboarding, rape to enslave and sex traffic a girl, 16, and a woman
Miami’s Julius Mozie transitioned from prostitution customer to pimp to sex trafficker from 2018 to 2021, eventually controlling two women and a 16-year-old via beatings, rapes and other acts in his “Torture Chamber.” Some of these acts, Mozie recorded on video.
The evidence helped encourage Mozie, 32, to plead guilty in Miami federal court to conspiracy to commit sex trafficking and sex trafficking of a minor by force or coercion. Mozie, who used hotels in Hialeah and Miami Springs, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Mozie’s accomplice, 30-year-old Miamian Michelle Stubbs got five years, 10 months after pleading guilty to the same charges as Mozie.
Mozie was scheduled to finish a two-year probation on Aug. 27 after his 2020 conviction in Miami-Dade County for strongarm robbery.
Soon after starting his probation in 2020, Mozie moved on to sex trafficking.
‘Management’ use of rape
What follows comes directly from Mozie’s and Stubbs’ factual proffer statements, the admission of facts that goes with a guilty plea.
Mozie met Stubbs when he answered one of her online sex-for-money ads in 2018. They began working together in Stubbs’ personal prostitution business in September 2020 and Mozie began taking some of money Stubbs earned late in September or early in October of 2020.
Stubbs advertised on the Megapersonals website, which required the account holder send a picture holding his/her driver’s license. After the website rejected Mozie, a woman who Stubbs knew sold a picture of herself to Mozie to allow a Megapersonals registration.
The emerging pimp combed Megapersonals for women he sensed would be easy to control, then went after them as strategically as any college football coach wooing a high school star.
“Mozie’s method of recruitment began with meeting a girl and taking her to a hotel for a few days, where he would treat her as if she was his girlfriend,” Stubbs’ admission says. “He would initially respond to online advertisements for commercial sex acts as a potential client. After their hotel stay, he would bring the girl back to where Stubbs was staying and introduce Stubbs as “my (rhymes with “glitch”) that works for me.””
Mozie used a Hialeah hotel to get the woman, referred to in the court documents as “Adult Victim,” under his influence. He began pimping her out in December 2020. On Christmas Eve, 2020, the 16-year-old’s grandmother reported her missing.
How Mozie found her isn’t clear. But he called her “The Perfect Girl,” his summary for someone young who he could manipulate like a marionette.
Stubbs tried to find the high school attended by the girl, called “Minor Victim” in the court documents, but Mozie took away her smartphone before she could do so. But she was able to find a post stating that the Minor Victim was a missing juvenile.
By this point, “Stubbs transitioned from providing the commercial sex acts to “management,” when the Minor Victim joined the group,” Stubbs factual proffer states. “While working for Mozie, Stubbs was in charge of maintaining the ledger used to record who was on a date and how much was being earned. Additionally, Stubbs told the Adult Victim to recruit other girls so that they did not have to work.”
Being in “management,” didn’t spare Stubbs the abuse Mozie used in his “Torture Chamber” to encourage obedience when they strayed from his instructions.
“As part of the punishment, Mozie poured coffee on Stuffs and instructed her to perform oral sex on him,” Stubbs’ admission says. “The Adult Victim was also physically beaten in the “Torture Chamber,” which was recorded on video. Mozie abused the Adult Victim for approximately one hour during which the Adult Victim was handcuffed, beaten, waterboarded and urinated on by Mozie.
“After assaulting the Adult Victim, Mozie left to go to the Minor Victim’s room to (rape) her and Stubbs helped the Adult Victim clean up after her asault. Stubbs was also in the “Torture Chamber,” in which she had a ball stuffed into her mouth. She was waterboarded by Mozie, tied up by Mozie and covered in Mozie’s feces.”
The close of business
An online posting advertising using “sexually explicit images” to advertise her sexual services triggered an alert from the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children on Feb. 15, 2021.
An undercover officer texted the ad that day and the next, eventually agreeing on $150 for a half-hour of “full service” (fellatio and vaginal sex) with the 16-year-old at a Miami Springs hotel.
When the undercover cop and his backup officers got to the hotel, they saw a woman and a girl outside Room No. 801. The girl went to Room No. 807. The undercover cop went to Room No. 807 as directed, where he found the Minor Victim. His backup spoke with the woman in No. 801, the Adult Victim. Both room were registered to Mozie and both women said they were being sex trafficked by him.
He’d forced the Minor Victim 15-minute sessions with men.
Cameras didn’t lie. Hotel surveillance cameras saw Mozie, Stubbs and the Minor Victim show up at the hotel in a black Kia SUV. Stubbs cell phone contained pictures of the Minor Victim in “lewd poses” used in the online advertisements.
Also, there were photos and videos of Mozie with a silver, semi-automatic handgun and “flaunting large sums of money.”
