Cooper City teen charged with burglary attempt

A 16-year-old has been arrested and charged with attempted armed burglary after the Broward Sheriff’s Office said he was the one “prowling around” a Cooper City community.

On Monday, BSO said detectives were looking for an armed burglar who attempted to sexually assault a 7-year-old around 4:45 a.m. Monday in the Flamingo Lakes Townhomes.

The teen, BSO did not identify, was not charged Tuesday with the attempted sexual assault.

BSO said the teen, who lives in the neighborhood, was seen on surveillance video. Deputies were waiting for him early Tuesday morning when he returned home in a rideshare service.

“Detectives continue to investigate the armed burglary with an attempted sexual battery of a 7-year-old victim,” BSO said in a news release Tuesday.

The teen could face more charges.

No other information was released Tuesday.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detectives Vanessa Encina or Dimos Charoudis at 954-321-4240 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
