Miami police arrested a 13-year-old Friday who stole an SUV that had a sleeping baby inside.
Officers arrived at the scene of the carjacking, at 8450 NE Miami Court, at about 4:30 p.m. The baby’s mother said she parked her black Jeep and got out to drop her children off at their grandmother’s house. As she walked her two eldest kids into the home, she left the car running with the keys in the ignition.
The teenager, who was charged with one count of grand theft auto, got in and drove off in the SUV as the 6-month-old slept in his car seat, police said.
Police gave a description of the vehicle via radio and a vehicle matching the description was seen around Northeast Second Avenue and Northeast 78th Street. An officer made a traffic stop, the teen surrendered and was placed in custody.
